Everything you need to know about Acrow props size 4: (3.20m - 4.88m) hire

Description

Size 4 acrow prop hire

The longest acrow we list. 3.20m closed, 4.88m fully wound. You hire it when Size 3 has run out at 3.96m. You do not hire it for a house, a shop with a 3m soffit, or a domestic stair. The closed tube is already 3.20m. It will not stand in those spaces.

What an acrow is, pin and nut, Strongboys, sole plates, plumbing: Size 1. That page is the manual. This page is the 4m-class range.

When Size 4 is right

Measure floor to the underside you must hold. If that number sits between 3.96m and 4.88m, this is the prop. Typical jobs: warehouse soffits, tall commercial voids, industrial mezzanine work. If you are under 3.96m, go back to Size 3. If you are under 3.12m, you want Size 1.

A Size 4 at full stretch is a long, slender post. Treat it that way. Plumb matters more, not less. Load is the stamp on the prop we send, and it is at its weakest at maximum extension. Load-bearing work still needs an engineer.

Not a stronger prop

Size 4 is not “heavy duty Size 1.” It is a longer tube. Strongboys still only belong on masonry above an opening. Most Size 4 jobs are beams and soffits, not a house lintel.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a Size 4 acrow in a house?

No. It only closes to 3.20m. A typical room is 2.4m. Use Size 1. Even most stairwells are Size 3, not this prop.

When is Size 4 the right prop?

When the underside you must support is above 3.96m and up to 4.88m. Warehouses, tall commercial voids, some double-height industrial spaces. Size 3 stops at 3.96m.

Is Size 4 a heavy-duty grade?

No. The number is height, not strength. Load is stamped on the prop and falls as you wind it toward 4.88m. How to stand one and when to add Strongboys is on the Size 1 page.
