Everything you need to know about Acrow props size 0: (1.04m - 1.83m) hire

Description

Size 0 acrow prop hire

Adjustable steel prop, 1.04m closed to 1.83m fully wound. That is the short size. Use it under a low beam, a window head or a short drop. Do not hire Size 0 for a normal floor-to-ceiling prop — that is Size 1.

An acrow takes vertical load. It is temporary works, not a permanent wall. If you are opening a masonry wall for a lintel, you want this prop plus Strongboys, not props on their own.

Which size acrow?

  • Size 0 — 1.04–1.83m — low openings. This page.
  • Size 1 — 1.75–3.12m — most domestic rooms. This is the size most customers take.
  • Size 2 — 1.98–3.35m — taller rooms.
  • Size 3 — 2.59–3.96m / Size 4 — 3.20–4.88m — stairwells and high spaces.

Measure the height you need to support, then pick the size whose range covers it without winding past the last safe thread. Never extend a prop beyond the marked maximum.

Props and Strongboys

A Strongboy is the head that sits on the prop and goes into a raked mortar joint so the masonry above can stay put while you cut the opening. Max spacing with Strongboys is 900mm on the Strongboy listing. A typical door is two props minimum, often more. Load-bearing walls are an engineer’s job. If you do not know whether the wall is load-bearing, stop and find out before you hire.

Using them

  • Plumb. A leaning prop buckles.
  • Sole plate under the base, header pack under the top plate.
  • Nut fully engaged. Do not hold a load on the last threads.
  • Check every prop and Strongboy before you put load on it. Damaged kit gets replaced, not used.
  • Do not take them out until the new lintel or beam is doing the work.

Frequently asked questions

What height is a Size 0 acrow prop?

Size 0 adjusts from 1.04m to 1.83m. That is a low opening. A typical 2.4m room needs Size 1 (1.75–3.12m), not this prop.

Do I need Strongboys as well?

Yes if you are supporting brick or block above an opening while you put a lintel in. The Strongboy sits on the prop and bites into the mortar joint. Props alone take vertical load from a beam or soffit. They do not replace a Strongboy in a wall.

How many acrow props do I need?

A single door or window is usually at least two props, often with Strongboys, and never more than 900mm apart when used that way. Load-bearing work needs an engineer’s layout. Do not guess the count from this page.

What is the safe working load?

It is stamped on the prop and it falls as you wind it taller. We do not publish a single figure because partner stock varies. If the wall is load-bearing, you need an engineer, not a website SWL.

Do I need a trade account?

No. Pick the dates, pay online, we source from a local partner and collect when you are done.
