Magnetic Drill Hire Across the UK

Drilling steel cleanly and safely

The magnetic base needs enough steel thickness and a clean, flat contact surface to generate reliable holding force, rust, paint, or an uneven weld bead under the magnet all reduce grip, so a quick scrape and wire brush before positioning the drill is worth the extra minute.

Coolant matters more with annular cutters than most people expect, running dry shortens cutter life dramatically and can warp the slug inside the cutter, jamming it. Most hire units come with a coolant reservoir or cutting paste, use it consistently rather than only when the cutter starts smoking.

A safety chain is not just best practice, it is what stops the drill falling if power cuts out or the magnet loses grip mid-cut on a vertical or overhead application, which is far more common on site than people expect given voltage drops on long extension runs. Always anchor the chain before switching the magnet on.
