Road Sweeper Hire Across the UK

Managing dust and mud at site exits

Road sweepers are typically hired with a qualified operator included, who handles driving, sweeping, and water suppression. This is standard practice given the specialist controls involved, rather than a self-drive rental in most cases; self-drive options may exist for compact models but are the exception.

Section 60 or 61 notices under the Control of Pollution Act can require daily sweeping of site exits and adjacent public roads on construction jobs, particularly in residential areas or where a local authority has raised concerns about mud and debris being tracked onto the highway.

Water suppression during sweeping keeps fine dust from becoming airborne, which matters both for air quality compliance and for visibility on public roads. Weekly sweeping is common for general ongoing sites, but your site manager or the local authority will specify the required frequency for your particular job.
