Browse dumpersDumper size guide
Payload capacity should match the project scale, not just the space you've got to store the machine.
1 tonne dumpers
Driveways, gardens, and small groundwork jobs with tight access.
3 tonne dumpers
The most common size for general construction sites and mid-scale groundwork.
6–9 tonne dumpers
Large earthwork and civil engineering projects moving high volumes daily.
Hi-tip & swivel-tip variants
Hi-tip dumps over obstacles like a skip or trench; swivel-tip rotates the skip independently of travel direction.
Choosing and running a site dumper safely
1 tonne dumpers suit driveways and gardens with restricted access. 3 tonne machines handle most general construction sites. 6–9 tonne dumpers are for large earthwork and civil engineering projects where the daily volume moved makes a bigger machine worthwhile despite the extra transport cost.
On private land, no formal licence is required to operate a dumper, though training is strongly recommended given the stability risks of an articulated, high-centre-of-gravity machine on sloped or uneven ground. On public roads it must be road-legal and driven on a valid licence. CPCS or NPORS certification is standard on commercial sites and often required by principal contractors regardless of legal minimum.
Overloading the skip beyond its rated payload, or tipping on a slope steeper than the manufacturer's stated limit, are the two most common causes of dumper rollovers. Load evenly, keep the skip low when travelling, and never travel across a slope rather than up or down it.
